Our vision
We envision an equitable and inclusive sustainability landscape, whereby Black, Indigenous, and People of Colour (BIPOC) are empowered and represented across all levels and spaces in the Lower Mainland.
Our mission
Our mission is to support connections among BIPOC professionals within the sustainability field, nurturing their personal and professional growth through engagement within the following three pillars.
1
Build relationships
Form a diverse and inclusive network of leaders and knowledge holders, and those with shared lived experiences.
2
Build capacity
Equip our members to be resilient leaders and change-makers towards a sustainable and climate just future.
Amplify
Amplifying BIPOC stories and successes. Serve as a hub for sharing research, job opportunities, stories, achievements, and contributions.
3
Values
Justice
We uphold fairness, equity, and accountability for the BIPOC community, ensuring all actions align with social justice principles and decolonial frameworks. Our community offerings are designed with empathy and understanding, prioritizing the well-being and dignity of every individual. We integrate equity and justice design and considerations into all of our events and programming.
Healing
We support the BIPOC community by fostering relationships and creating safe and vulnerable spaces where diverse perspectives and experiences are understood and embraced. We provide opportunities for collective healing in anti-colonial spaces, offering support for those in sustainability through a non-Eurocentric framework.
Community First
We collaborate with mission-aligned organizations to co-create effective solutions for the BIPOC community. With a shared vision around sustainability and equity, our relationships and partner organizations are based on trust, mutuality, and a desire to extend impact beyond our immediate community.
Intersectional
We take into account complex and overlapping systemic injustice and oppression faced by BIPOC individuals by keeping intersectionality at the forefront of our efforts. By adapting our approaches to meet their changing needs, we ensure that our offerings are thoughtfully designed and responsive. We prioritize the well-being and dignity of every individual within the BIPOC community.
Local
We implement place-based solutions that consider the unique contexts, histories, and challenges of BIPOC communities located on traditional Coast Salish lands, in the Lower Mainland of BC. Our approach centers on the specific geographical needs while acknowledging global and regional influences and interplays that shape the BIPOC identities.
